cell phoneHey everyone,
The CZY Planning Committee is always thinking about ways that we can encourage youth in their walk with Yeshua. We try to provide an environment at camp that is free from the distractions of the world and that allows us to really focus on our relationship with God.

At the same time we want CZY to give youth the opportunity to forge lasting friendships. To inspire that vision at camp we are considering a no cell phone policy at camp. We think taking a break from social media and texting would be a positive thing for camp. There would still be phones available to make calls to home if needed.

We would love to hear what campers thoughts are. Would you go through social media withdrawal? How would you handle a week without your devices?  Would you welcome it?

Coming from from the other side of the pond, I need to be somewhat reachable/available (There is a 8 h time difference). So for me and my family, this could be difficult.

    Hey CZY,
I think it’s a good idea withdraw from a social media environment and replace it with a focus on God and each other, however, this does a create a difficult situation when it comes to our responsibilities and communications back home or at work etc.
I feel like having a complete no cell phone policy is a little extreme, but a solution could be to exclude them from meetings and services.

I understand the point of trying to remove distractions but some of us use these things as bibles or e-Swords. I’ve used mine for everything from keeping notes, scriptures, reference searches and root word meanings. Among those things some of us have an outside life like jobs, family and other responsibilities.

I think a key point to make here is those that do get distracted by their devices for social media or other unnecessary things that take from focusing, will find other distractions. It’s a matter of the heart and though yes, completely taking something may solve one issue for some, it will not necessarily address the heart.
